About the film:
In this adaptation of Shakespeare's 'The Tempest,' the gender of Prospero has been switched to Prospera. Going back to the 16th or 17th century, women practicing the magical arts of alchemy were often convicted of witchcraft. In Taymor's version, Prospera is usurped by her brother and sent off with her four-year daughter on a ship. She ends up on an island; it's a tabula rasa: no society, so the mother figure becomes a father figure to Miranda. This leads to the power struggle and balance between Caliban and Prospera; a struggle not about brawn, but about intellect.
Rated PG-13 for some nudity, suggestive content and scary images.

Subject: Movie Hardly Released ANYWHERE???

I am so dismayed that this fine production was released hardly anywhere. and no it looks like it will be in the fal that the DVD is out. I would have gone to see this film more than once I am sure, but have had no opportunity. Additionally, from the reports on IMDB it looks like it made a paltry amount of money, likely because it was not showing ANYWHERE! Why is this?? it has a suerlative cast and looks absolutely amazing from the preview and scene footage available. what is the deal here??? By the time fall comes around, I hope I remember that this is coming around. Nevertheless, this is sad lack of publicity (or elitism??) has resigned this wonderful film to obscurity... I have been looking forward to this movie for quite a while and I am really bummed to find out that it is only being released in New York and LA to start with...is there any way possible they can still release it in Florida too?
