The Beautiful and the Damned: John Curran to direct the period drama Mon January 5, 2009 Return to Film News John Curran ("The Painted Veil") has signed on to direct The Beautiful and the Damned, a period drama that will star Keira Knightley. Nick Cassavetes was previously in talks to direct. The film is about the untold story of Zelda Sayre and F. Scott Fitzgerald, who became Jazz Age icons known for living large, soaring high, and crashing hard in the 1920s. Envied, admired, and emulated by generations, the lives of this so-called "perfect couple" were not always as they appeared to be. The film will begin production in March.
