I Am Legend Prequel: Will Smith to return as Robert Neville Wed September 24, 2008 Return to Film News Will Smith will reprise his rose as scientist Robert Neville in a prequel to high-grosser I Am Legend. Warner Bros. has sterted developing the project which will also see the return of director Francis Lawrence. The screenplay is being written by D.B. Weiss , from an outline that was hatched over the past few months by Smith, Lawrence, as well as Akiva Goldsman and James Lassiter. It will chronicle the final days of humanity in New York before a man-made virus caused a plague that left Smith’s character the lone survivor among a mutated mob in the city.
