| About the film:
In Vietnam, a poor young woman, Phuong Li, is deeply in love. But when her boyfriend's wealthy mother forbids them to wed, Phuong Li joins a marriage agency to offer herself to keep her destitute family alive. She is quickly chosen by a seemingly compassionate American and travels to the land of promise only to be met by a life of hard labor and cruel and punishing abuse by her husband and his accomplice--his other wife. |
