| About the film: The film is set in 1967 and about a Midwestern Jewish family, the Gopniks. Things are starting to unravel for Larry Gopnik. His wife Judith may be having an affair and definitely wants a divorce; his brother Arthur lives with them because he is emotionally and financially incapable of living on his own; his children, Danny and Sarah, sneak money from his wallet, Danny to buy LPs and pot, Sarah to save up for a nose job. An anonymous hostile letterwriter is trying to sabotage Larry’s chances for tenure at the university and a graduate student seems to be trying to bribe him for a passing grade at the same time that he is threatening to sue him for defamation. Plus, the beautiful woman next door torments him by sunbathing nude. Struggling for equilibrium, Larry seeks advice from three different rabbis. Can anyone help him cope with his afflictions and become a righteous serious man? |
